불국사와 석굴암은, 서울의 종묘, 합천 해인사의 팔만대장경과 함께 대한민국에서 가장 먼저 유네스코 세계문화유산에 등재되었습니다.
불국사와 석굴암은 대한민국을 대표하는 걸출한 문화유산입니다.
불교를 나라 신앙으로 믿었던 신라인들은 그들이 해낼 수 있는 최고의 건축 기법과, 최고의 노력과, 최고의 정성으로 ‘부처님의 나라‘ 불국사를 건설했습니다. 그들은 불교의 교리를 사찰 건축물에 잘 녹여내어 이상적인 가람 배치를 만들어내었습니다.
신라인들은 경주 토함산을 나라를 지키는 산으로 신성하게 생각했기 때문에, 이 토함산에 최고의 사찰을 짓고 싶어 했습니다. 그 결과물이 바로 불국사, 그리고 그에 소속된 암자인 석굴암입니다.
시대를 초월한 아름다움을 담고 있는 이 두 문화유산을 보러 경주에 오신 여러분이, 잊을 수 없는 기억을 담고 떠나시길 바랍니다. 감사합니다.
Bulguksa Temple and Seokguram Hermitage, along with Jongmyo Shrine in Seoul and the Tripitaka Koreana of Hapcheon Haeinsa Temple, were among the first to be listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Korea.
Bulguksa Temple and Seokguram Hermitage are outstanding cultural heritages representing Korea.
The Silla people, who believed in Buddhism as their country faith, built Bulguksa Temple, the 'land of the Buddha', with the best architectural techniques, the best effort, and the best care they could manage. They melted the Buddhist doctrine into the temple architecture and created an ideal arrangement of garam.
Because the Silla people considered Mount Tohamsan in Gyeongju to be sacred to protect their country, they wanted to build the best temple there. The result is Bulguksa Temple and its hermitage, Seokguram Hermitage.
